Oklahoma may be one wide receiver short to begin the season as redshirt junior, Nick Basquine went down with a lower-leg injury earlier today (Update: Achilles injury, likely out for the season). Rumors began to surface early this afternoon, however severity of the injury was not known and won’t be known until staff finishes testing. That said, based on what I’ve heard from sources, it looks like Basquine could miss significant time. Credit Super K over at TFB for first breaking the news.
Basquine, a former walk-on from Norman North, earned a scholarship last season with 20 receptions, 265 and 2 touchdowns. He has the second-most production of any wide receiver returning from last year’s roster and was expected to take on a much bigger role in the absence of Dede Westbrook and Geno Lewis.
In the event Basquine does end up missing significant time, the next two wide receivers up are newcomer, Marquise Brown and sophomore, Mykel Jones. We expect to hear something from Oklahoma in regards to the injury soon.
