Oklahoma only had two defections off of the 2017 class. One came by slot receiver, Jalen Reagor, who was set to be a day-one kind of player at the school he chose to attend. Oklahoma mulled over some options, but ended up going all in for College of the Canyons stand out, Marquise Brown. Little did they know that they found a hidden gem at the time, and the heir apparent of Jalen Saunders.
Just put on the tape. That is all you have to do to in order to get excited for what Marquise Brown brings to Oklahoma. He is just a violent route runner and is violent in-and-out of his cuts. Brown’s explosiveness is rare. What he does with or without a football in his hands is remarkable.
The question is if Brown will be ready to be the go-to guy by game one of the 2017 season. He has a new system with a different language to get used to. It even took Dede Westbrook half a season to really emerge onto the scene in 2015. The Sooners have a huge need to get a #1 receiver for Baker Mayfield as Ohio State looms in Week Two of the 2017 season– will Marquise Brown be ready to be that guy?
A unique part of Marquise Brown is that he has three years to play at Oklahoma from the junior college ranks. That is like three years of Jalen Saunders, or having Dede Westbrook back this season. The Sooners hit on a player that could ultimately be the deciding factor between the College Football Playoffs, or just another Big 12 Title and a New Year’s Six game.
As I mentioned above, just press play on his HUDL highlight film. It will tell you everything you need to know and why the expectations for Marquise Brown are sky-high.
