Recruiting Update: 1-30-17

Tyler Taylor~

As most of you know, Tim Kish had an in-home visit with four-star ILB, Tyler Taylor, on Saturday. Only days after Jacob Phillips flipped his commitment to LSU, a person close to the situation informed me that Oklahoma may have more of a shot than what was originally expected. To paraphrase here, I was told Tim Kish “knocked the in-home visit out of the park”; putting the Sooners in the mix.

To keep some positive momentum going, Taylor has recently been in contact and has had lengthy conversations with current members of the Oklahoma football team. Not only that, coaches other than Tim Kish have also gotten significantly involved as well. Simply, Oklahoma is putting all their resources into recruiting Taylor.

People on the LSU side are still confident. These are the same individuals that passed along the info that Jacob Phillips was flipping to LSU the week of the Army Bowl (I did not take much stock into it then). Taking the information from both sides now, this definitely seems like another all-out LSU/OU battle up until he announces his commitment.

After Thursday, I wouldn’t have given the Sooners more than about a 20{90cbdbedcebe3734fdfdeb1f9843068779d1ec8d5ef30619baff100fe391d921} to land the Georgia native. Heading into tomorrow’s decision, I still believe LSU has a slim lead in his recruitment. However, I have been told it is closer to 50-50 than what most people think. The Sooners coaching staff is remaining confident heading into Taylor’s decision, which reports say that it will come sometime tomorrow. Oklahoma fans are going to want to keep a very close eye on this one.

Update 6:15 PM

At this point before a commitment, a recruit usually has already let the coaches know of his decision in some sort of way. I spoke to someone close to the situation from the LSU side of things, and the LSU staff has not heard from Tyler Taylor yet. Some on the LSU side of things were hearing that he already let LSU know he was coming just over a week ago. Obviously, that is not the case. Monitoring the situation closely….
