It’s official, Dede Westbrook has been named the nation’s most outstanding wide receiver and winner of the 2016 Biletnikoff. This is an historic night for the Oklahoma Football program as Westbrook is the first Sooner ever to be named the winner of the prestigious award. Former winners include: Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson and more recently Amari Cooper and Corey Coleman.

For Westbrook, it hasn’t been the typical path to greatness. Five years ago, Dede Westbrook announced his commitment to Texas State before eventually heading down the JUCO path to Blinn College. An injury prevented him from playing a full year but he would return to Blinn where his performance on the field inevitably caught the attention of the Oklahoma football staff.

Dede Westbrook has been nothing short of remarkable this season with 74 receptions, 1465 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns. Westbrook ranks 2nd behind Ryan Broyles for the best season ever by an Oklahoma wide receiver (with one game left).

Oklahoma’s prolific wide receiver isn’t done yet as he heads to New York this Saturday with teammate, Baker Mayfield as Heisman finalists. The Heisman Ceremony is slated for 8pm ET and will be televised on ESPN.
